Chesapeake, VA

From Great Bridge to Western Branch.

Chesapeake is 350 square miles of everything at once — 1950s ranches in South Norfolk, new construction off Battlefield Boulevard, and farmhouses on well and septic down in Hickory. We've been plumbing all of it since 1968, and the truck is coming from right next door.

Plumbing Problems Particular To Chesapeake

No two parts of this city plumb alike. South Norfolk and Deep Creek are old, dense, and on city sewer with clay laterals. Greenbrier and Western Branch are postwar suburban. Hickory, Fentress, and the land south of the Northwest River are rural, on wells and septic fields.

What ties them together is water: the Dismal Swamp, the Elizabeth River branches, and a table that sits high enough that a wet spring shows up in your crawlspace before it shows up in your yard.

We've worked every one of those conditions for decades — which usually means we can narrow down what's wrong before the truck pulls up.

Well and septic in the south

Below Great Bridge, plenty of homes are on private wells and septic fields. Pressure tanks, pump cycling, and drain field saturation are a different diagnosis than a city-water complaint — we handle the plumbing side and tell you plainly when it's a well contractor's job.

A very high water table

Between the Dismal Swamp and the Elizabeth River branches, groundwater sits close to the surface. Leaks spread sideways instead of surfacing, and crawlspaces show the problem before the yard does.

Older clay in the north

South Norfolk, Deep Creek, and the older parts of Western Branch have laterals that predate PVC. Root intrusion and separated clay joints are the most common cause of repeat backups we find there.

New construction, new problems

The subdivisions off Battlefield and Dominion are young enough that the pipe is fine — what fails first is builder-grade fixtures, water heaters, and undersized gas runs to a new appliance.

Commonly Asked Questions

Chesapeake questions, answered.

How fast can you get to my part of Chesapeake?

We're based in Hampton Roads with a fleet running daily across the region, so Chesapeake isn't a long haul for us. For urgent work we aim to have someone rolling within the hour; routine appointments are usually same-day or next-day depending on when you call. The far south end past Fentress adds drive time, and we'll tell you honestly what to expect.

Do you work on homes with well water and septic?

Yes. We handle the plumbing side — pressure tanks, supply piping, fixtures, water heaters, and the drain lines up to the septic tank. If the problem turns out to be the well pump itself or a saturated drain field, we'll tell you that plainly rather than billing you to find out.

My house is from the fifties. What's under the yard?

In South Norfolk, Deep Creek, and older Western Branch, most likely vitrified clay for the sewer and galvanized steel for the water line. If it was built between the late seventies and mid-nineties, grey polybutylene water line is common and worth planning to replace before it fails.

Do you handle Chesapeake permits and inspections?

Yes. Gas work, backflow installs, and sewer or water line replacements are pulled, permitted, and inspected under our license. We schedule the inspection and handle the paperwork so you're not chasing the city.

Why does my drain back up every time it rains hard?

That pattern almost always means the lateral has an opening — a cracked joint or a separated section — letting groundwater in. Chesapeake's water table is high to begin with, so a heavy rain fills the line faster than it can drain. A camera inspection shows exactly where.

Does the city or the homeowner own the sewer lateral?

In most Hampton Roads jurisdictions the homeowner owns the lateral from the house to the main, including the part under the sidewalk or street. We'll identify on camera exactly where the defect sits, and if it's on the city's side we'll tell you and point you to the right department.
