How long does a camera inspection take?
Most take 45 minutes to an hour, start to finish, including the walkthrough of the footage with you. Locating a specific defect on the surface adds a little time. If the house has no accessible cleanout, we'll tell you what gaining access involves before we start.
Do I need a cleanout for you to inspect?
It's the easiest access point, but not the only one. Without one we can pull a toilet or enter through a roof vent. If your home has no cleanout at all, we'll usually recommend installing one — it makes every future service call faster and cheaper.
Can you tell how deep the problem is?
Yes. The camera head carries a sonde that a surface locator picks up, so we can mark the spot in your yard and give you a depth. That's what turns a repair from an exploratory trench into a targeted dig.
Do I get a copy of the video?
Always. You get the recorded footage and the distance readings, which matter if you're negotiating with a seller, filing an insurance claim, or getting competing repair quotes.
Should I scope a house before I buy it?
On anything built before 1980, yes. A standard home inspection does not include the sewer lateral — the inspector runs water and watches it drain, which says nothing about what's happening 30 feet out. A scope during due diligence is inexpensive relative to what a line replacement costs.
Is the inspection fee credited if I have you do the repair?
Yes. If we do the recommended work, the inspection fee comes off the repair. We'd rather you spend the money on fixing the actual problem than on finding it.
